¿Qué es la piel curtida al vegetal?

El curtido es el proceso que convierte una piel en cuero estable y duradero. En el curtido vegetal, ese cambio lo hacen los taninos naturales que se obtienen de la madera, en lugar de sales minerales.
El proceso pila-tambor
En Marfil curtimos con el proceso pila-tambor 100% vegetal, el mismo que nuestra familia conoció en las tenerías de Italia alrededor de 1950. La piel reposa primero en pilas con taninos y después se trabaja en tambores, hasta que el tanino penetra por completo en la fibra.

The pit-and-drum process
At Marfil we tan with the 100% vegetable pit-and-drum process, the same one our family discovered in Italian tanneries around 1950. Hides first rest in tannin pits and are then worked in drums until the tannin fully penetrates the fibre.
